About the Futile Cycle

Really, it’s not as depressing as the name sounds. The Futile Cycle is a fundamental biochemical pattern that appears in almost every biological system, a picture of molecular balance that allows for the complex behavior shown throughout biology.

About the Author

I’m a graduate student interested in a variety of sciences, including chemistry, biology, physics, molecular genetics, chemical biology, biochemistry, physical chemistry, chemical physics, biophysics, physical biology, biophysical chemistry, chemical biophysics, physical biochemistry, biochemical physics, chemical physical biology, physical chemical biology, systems biology, computational biology, quantitative biology, genomics, proteomics, transcriptomics, metabolomics, lipidomics, post-translational modificomics, ome-omics, and various combinations thereof. I was a chemistry major in college, and it was there that I gained my fondness for parafilm.

Why do I blog anonymously? Well, mostly because I don’t want this blog to be the top search hit for my name. There are still people in academia who would perceive this blog as being evidence of my laziness, and though I think that they’re wrong (I blog in my free time), they’re in the position of power, and their first impressions (and first Googlings) count for a lot. Prudence thus dictates it such. It’s really not hard to figure out who I am, but I’d like to make it non-trivial, at the very least.

The Comment Policy

I haven’t had any problems yet, but just in case for the future: please at least be civil. You don’t have to be particularly nice or cushion intellectual blows (though, it would be advised as a method of convincing rhetoric), but no flaming, please.
